Description

Between the two World Wars, many navies invested in fast torpedo boats for patrol and attack missions. Advances in engine technology delivered far superior speed and operational effectiveness compared to WWI designs.

During the 1930s, the German Kriegsmarine developed the well-known S-class Schnellboote. Built between 1939 and 1940, the S-26 series featured an integrated bow structure housing two 533 mm torpedo tubes. This design was refined and carried over to later variants, most notably the S-38.

Nearly 100 S-38 boats were produced, measuring 35 meters in length with a full-load displacement exceeding 100 tons. Powered by Daimler-Benz 12-cylinder engines, they achieved a top speed of 39.5 knots, making them highly effective in night attack operations.
