Description
The Macchi MC.205 Veltro is widely regarded as the finest Italian fighter of World War II. Developed from the MC.202 Folgore, it retained the excellent aerodynamic design while being powered by the more powerful Daimler-Benz DB605 V12 engine.

With a top speed of around 640 km/h, excellent maneuverability, and improved armament — two 12.7 mm machine guns and two 20 mm cannons — the Veltro could compete effectively with Allied fighters such as the P-51 Mustang.

Introduced in early 1943, it served until the end of the war with various Italian air units.
