Description
The Macchi MC.200 Saetta was one of Italy’s first truly modern fighter aircraft and marked a significant step forward for the Regia Aeronautica at the start of World War II. Designed by renowned engineer Mario Castoldi, it represented the shift from outdated biplanes to all-metal monoplane fighters.
Powered by a 14-cylinder air-cooled Fiat A.74 RC 38 radial engine delivering around 840 hp, the MC.200 could reach speeds close to 500 km/h. While praised for its agility, durability and handling, it was underpowered and lightly armed compared to many Allied fighters. Standard armament consisted of two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns, with later versions adding wing-mounted guns.
The Saetta served on all major Italian fronts, including North Africa, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and the Eastern Front, earning a reputation for reliability among pilots.
This all-new Italeri 1:32 scale kit features exceptional detail, including a finely detailed cockpit, engine, armament and movable control surfaces. A striking model for WWII aviation enthusiasts.
