Description
The Volkswagen Schwimmwagen Type 166 was one of the most versatile light vehicles used by German forces during World War II. Thanks to its watertight hull-shaped body and retractable rear propeller, the vehicle was capable of operating both on land and in water.
The Schwimmwagen was powered by a 1,130 cc air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine producing around 25 hp. It could reach speeds of approximately 80 km/h on land and about 10 km/h in water.
The wide-wheel version offered improved off-road performance on soft and muddy terrain. Between late 1942 and autumn 1944, about 14,000 units were produced. They were used by various units including pioneer units and Fallschirmjäger paratroopers.
The Tamiya 1:35 model kit features a highly detailed recreation of the vehicle, including engine, suspension and interior. Accessories such as an MG34 machine gun, Kar98k rifle and Panzerfaust are included, along with two figures.
