Introduced in 1975, the Ford Escort RS1800 Mk.II was a major evolution of the earlier Mk.I. While retaining its proven mechanical reliability, the Mk.II featured a completely redesigned body that reflected the style of the 1970s. With multiple body styles and engine options, it quickly became a commercial success.

The sporty RS1800 version, powered by a 115 hp twin-cam four-cylinder engine, formed the basis for Ford’s rally program. The car achieved outstanding results in the World Rally Championship, highlighted by the 1979 World Title won by Björn Waldegård and Hans Thorszelius.
