Description
In the years preceding the Second World War, the Italian Regio Esercito recognised the need for mechanised artillery capable of supporting infantry and armoured units. The Semovente da 75/18 was therefore developed on the chassis of the Italian medium “M” tank.

During the conflict, it proved to be the most feared Italian armoured vehicle among Allied forces. Its 75 mm howitzer mounted in a fixed casemate made it an effective anti-tank weapon, capable of defeating even heavily armoured British and American tanks. In addition to its strong firepower, the vehicle was valued for its low profile, which made it harder to detect, and its generally good mobility. The Semovente saw service in North Africa and Italy and was later used by Wehrmacht units after 8 September 1943.
