Porsche 959 – Scale 1:24
Porsche’s sumptuous “Gruppe B” turned many heads at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show and would go on to become the 959, which was released to the public in 1986. Its 2,848cc 6-cylinder boxer engine was based on the powerplant used in the high-performance 956 and 962 race cars, and with twin turbochargers it produced 450hp.
The full-time 4WD system featured computer-controlled variable torque distribution, adjusting to road conditions for the ultimate balance of safety and power. The long-tail body, made largely of aluminum and FRP, had a drag coefficient of just 0.39, contributing to excellent stability at speeds of up to 300km/h.
Only 250 units were produced, but that was enough for this legendary forerunner of modern 4WD sports cars to leave an indelible mark on automotive history.
