Description
The M24 Chaffee entered service with the U.S. Army in 1944 as a modern replacement for the outdated M3 and M5 Stuart light tanks. Its redesigned layout proved highly successful, making the M24 widely regarded as one of the finest light tanks of World War II.
Fast, reliable and agile, the Chaffee featured impressive firepower for a light tank, thanks to its 75 mm M6 gun with 48 rounds carried, supported by two Browning machine guns. It was effectively employed in reconnaissance roles as well as close infantry support, often operating in coordination with heavier Sherman tanks during the final stages of the war.
