Description
The USS Arizona (BB-39) was an American Pennsylvania-class battleship and sister ship to USS Pennsylvania. Construction began in March 1914, she was launched on 19 June 1915 and commissioned on 17 October 1916. With a powerful main armament of twelve 14-inch (356 mm) guns arranged in four triple turrets, Arizona was among the most important American battleships of her generation.
During the interwar years, USS Arizona served with the United States Fleet and participated in numerous naval exercises and operations. Throughout the 1930s, the battleship underwent several modernisations involving her superstructure, armament and equipment.
On 7 December 1941, USS Arizona was moored at Pearl Harbor when Japanese aircraft attacked the American naval base. A bomb caused a catastrophic explosion in the forward section of the ship, resulting in her sinking. A total of 1,177 crew members lost their lives. The wreck remains at Pearl Harbor today and is the site of the USS Arizona Memorial, an important monument honouring those who died.
This impressive Trumpeter 1:200 scale model kit depicts USS Arizona in her 1941 configuration. Measuring almost 93 cm in length and containing 1,048 parts, it offers an extensive building project for enthusiasts of historic warships.
The kit features a detailed two-part hull, finely reproduced decks and superstructure, metal gun barrels for the main armament and photo-etched components for additional detailing.
