Description

The HMS Nelson was a British Nelson-class battleship and one of the most distinctive warships of the Royal Navy. Construction began on 28 December 1922 at Armstrong Whitworth in Newcastle. She was launched on 3 September 1925 and entered service in 1927.

The Nelson class was famous for its unusual design, with all three main gun turrets positioned forward of the superstructure. The ship's main armament consisted of nine powerful 16-inch (406 mm) guns. This distinctive arrangement was a result of the restrictions imposed by the Washington Naval Treaty and gave HMS Nelson her instantly recognisable silhouette.

During World War II, HMS Nelson participated in numerous important operations. She protected convoys to Malta, supported the Allied landings in North Africa during Operation Torch in 1942 and provided naval gunfire support during the invasions of Sicily and Salerno in 1943. On 29 September 1943, an important ceremony took place aboard the ship for the signing of the detailed Italian armistice.

In June 1944, HMS Nelson took part in Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. Her heavy naval artillery provided support for troops ashore. Later in the war, the battleship was deployed to Asian waters and participated in the final stages of the conflict against Japan.

This impressive Trumpeter 1:200 scale model kit depicts HMS Nelson in her 1944 configuration. Measuring over 108 cm in length and containing more than 1,260 parts, it offers an extensive building project for enthusiasts of historic warships.

The kit features a one-piece hull produced using slide-mould technology, a single-piece deck and accurately detailed gun turrets. Eight photo-etched sheets provide additional detail for railings, ladders, radar components and other fine elements.
