Description

The Scharnhorst was the lead ship of Germany's Scharnhorst class and sister ship to the Gneisenau. Launched on 3 October 1936 and commissioned on 7 January 1939, she combined high speed, powerful armament and a distinctive silhouette.

Scharnhorst became one of the best-known German warships of World War II.

In June 1940, Scharnhorst operated alongside Gneisenau in the naval engagement that resulted in the sinking of the British aircraft carrier HMS Glorious and two escorting destroyers. During Operation Berlin in 1941, both ships attacked Allied merchant shipping in the Atlantic. On 26 December 1943, Scharnhorst encountered a British naval force, including the battleship HMS Duke of York, during the Battle of the North Cape. Following an intense battle, she was sunk.

This impressive Trumpeter 1:200 scale model kit measures 117.5 cm in length and contains over 1,600 parts. The kit features a one-piece hull, finely detailed decks and accurately reproduced gun turrets. Six photo-etched sheets, metal components and two Arado Ar 196 floatplanes provide the fine details needed for an outstanding finished model.
