Description
The Bismarck was one of the most famous German battleships of World War II and the lead ship of the Bismarck class. Construction began in 1936, and she was commissioned on 24 August 1940. With a full-load displacement exceeding 50,000 tons, a main armament of eight 380 mm guns and extensive armour protection, Bismarck ranked among the most powerful warships of her time.
In May 1941, Bismarck departed alongside the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen for Operation Rheinübung, a mission aimed at attacking Allied shipping in the Atlantic. On 24 May, during the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the German ships engaged the British HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales. Bismarck sank the famous battlecruiser HMS Hood, triggering a major pursuit by the Royal Navy.
On 26 May, Bismarck was struck by a torpedo launched from a Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber operating from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal. The hit damaged her rudder, leaving the battleship almost impossible to steer. The following morning, Bismarck came under heavy attack from British warships and sank in the Atlantic on 27 May 1941.
This impressive Trumpeter 1:200 scale model kit measures 126.5 cm in length and contains over 1,700 parts. The kit features a one-piece hull, a single-piece deck, accurately reproduced gun turrets and thirteen photo-etched sheets.
Four Arado Ar 196 floatplanes are also included. As a special bonus, the kit features a fully detailed main gun turret with two metal gun barrels, allowing modellers to recreate the internal structure of the battleship's heavy armament.
